Backstage With Gary Vaynerchuk

10/26/19

Gary Vaynerchuk and I had the chance to chat a bit, during his visit to Birmingham earlier this year. There are some solid takeaways from this brief conversation between Gary and I, which you can watch above.

The thesis of the conversation, is reiterated by Gary in the conclusion of the video, when Gary looks at me and then at the camera, and pleas with the viewer to be more patient.

You know what your problem is..? You want it now… Go into a coma for a decade and then come out with something…

This, of course, is easier said then done.

I’ve learned that this is a multi-dimensional formula of creating a strong vision that you see differently than all of the other people around you. Taking massive action to achieve that vision. Persevering through the obstacles and challenges that were even harder than you thought, and took longer than you expected.

You must posses an immensely strong buy-in and belief in your vision — more than anyone else around you.

You need to take on failure head first and push through it with perseverance, only to return to your strong vision as the fuel to overcome the obstacles and truly succeed in the end.

Most people don’t ever even get close to this point of establishing a strong vision— a simple challenge or a discouraging experience can shatter their full buy-in and belief in their vision, before they ever really go all-in on it.

Plus, your vision has to be a special gift in itself. Its unique and original, to the standpoint that others don’t quite get it or see it the way you do. This is why it is a great opportunity… Because it’s a good idea that doesn’t currently exist!

Did you really think it wasn’t going to be immensely difficult to accomplish? Did you really believe it wouldn’t take years to build?

You don’t just get visions this strong. These are once or twice-in-a-lifetime visions. Not just a “hmm let me think up a good idea”-type occurrence.

For those who do actually establish a strong, original vision, it now comes down to the next key component — take massive action. While most don’t see a vision, even more won’t actually take the action it requires to achieve it and make it your [and our] reality.

You’re going to run into walls, deal with unexpected challenges and ultimately, you’re going to have moments where you lose some of the belief you initial had to chase your vision in the first place.

Press on. Take massive action. Persevere through the blows. Return to your vision. Press on. Take massive action. Persevere through the blows. Return to your vision.

It’s a cycle. And whether it takes a decade or a few years, it will not be easy. Press on. Take massive action. Persevere through the blows. Return to your vision. Press on. Take massive action. Persevere through the blows. Return to your vision.
